Cox Re: Frederick Freeman (Temujin Kensu) Dear Attorney General Cox: I write this letter to urge you to re-consider the case which led to the wrongful conviction of Frederick Freeman (Temujin Kensu) for first degree murder in 1987 and which has resulted in his unjust incarceration for over 22 years. After studying the evidence presented at his trial, along with significant developments since then, I can only conclude that he did not commit this crime and that he, in fact, was several hundred miles away at the time. I am not alone in this assessment. Many others have come to this same conclusion, including former law enforcement officials from around the state. The lack of meaningful evidence of his involvement, the numerous witnesses supporting his presence in the Upper Peninsula at the time, his truthful polygraph, as well as that of his primary alibi witness, all lead to the inevitable decision that someone else committed this murder. Mr. Kensu’s trial was riddled with unfairness and improper activities. Surely Michigan justice deserves better. More specifically, I ask you to end your Office’s opposition to his habeas corpus petition in federal court, re-open the investigation to find the real killer, recommend to the Governor that she grant clemency, and support his immediate release from prison.
